ERROR in "START_SHDI_PREPUT" phase

PURPOSE

This page provides symptoms and solutions reported in upgrade tool SUM in the preprocessing roadmap step and in phase START_SHDI_PREPUT

Overview

In this phase SUM starts the  shadow instance the first time

Environment

Instance role

Shadow instance

Kernel version

The update target kernel (e.g 7.42 for target release NW 7.40)

downloaded to the upgrade download directory and extracted by the upgrade tool to the upgrade kernel directory

or

a version which was extracted/copied manually to the upgrade kernel directory.

Attention!

 Change only the Kernel in the upgrade kernel directory, if an SAP note or SAP Support requests it.

The kernel release and the platform (OS/DB) needs to be carefully checked.

Kernel directory

UNIX: <update directory>/exe  (e.g. /usr/sap/PRD/SUM/abap/exe)

WINDOWS: <update directory>\exe  (e.g. D:\usr\sap\PRD\SUM\abap\exe)

Profile path

UNIX: <update directory>/system/<SID>/SYS/profile  (e.g. /usr/sap/PRD/SUM/abap/system/PRD/SYS/profile)

WINDOWS: <update directory>\system\<SID>\SYS\profile  (e.g. D:\usr\sap\PRD\SUM\abap\system\PRD\SYS\profile)

Instance work directory

UNIX: <update directory>/system/<SID>/<INSTANCE_NAME>/work  ( e.g.  /usr/sap/PRD/SUM/abap/system/PRD/DVEBMGS01/work)

WINDOWS: <update directory>\system\<SID>\<INSTANCE_NAME>\work  (e.g. D:\usr\sap\PRD\SUM\abap\system\PRD\DVEBMGS01\work)

Troubleshooting

1. Open  the following logfile in a text editor

UNIX: <update directory>/log/STARTSSC.LOG  (e.g. /usr/sap/PRD/SUM/abap/log/STARTSSC.LOG)

WINDOWS: <update directory>\log\STARTSSC.LOG  (e.g. D:\usr\sap\PRD\SUM\abap\log\STARTSSC.LOG)

2. Scroll down to the end of the log file STARTSSC.LOG

3. Click on the error message you can find in the log
